World History

Grade Level: 9
Full Year Course:  1.0 Credit
Prerequisites:  none
Course Description:  World History is the study of the history of the world from creation to the present. God, as the author of history, has written “HIS story.”  The Christian will see God’s hand in history, understand how much God has cared for his children throughout time, and see how God has used history to spread the good news of salvation.

US History

Grade Level:  10,  11
Full Year Course:  1.0 Credit
Prerequisites:  World History
Course Description:   Students will see the history of their country as His story.  All instruction will be centered on God’s Word and the cross of Christ.  As such, all people and events studied will be discussed from a Christian perspective of law and Gospel as taught in the Bible.  Students will be taught to view the past from a Christian perspective and to apply lessons learned to their present and future as  believers in their Savior, Jesus Christ. Semester I will be an overview of American History from colonial origins through the end of the 1800’s.  Semester II will be an overview of American History during the twentieth century.

American Government

Grade Level:  11-12
One Semester Course:  0.5 Credit
Prerequisites:  World History & US History
Course Description:  A one-semester course in the basic principles of democracy and their application to the United States’ government.  The basic operations of the US government will be explored, primarily on the national level, and contemporary topics affecting the government will be debated by the students.  Most importantly, the role of  the Christian in God’s two kingdoms will be explored.

Geography

Grade Level:  11-12
Three One-semester courses:  0.5 Credit each
Prerequisites:  World History & US History
Course Description:  Geography 1, 2, and 3 (People Alike, Old World Lands, and Emerging Nations respectively) are courses designed to introduce various regions of the world.  Each course begins with a basic introduction of geographic terms and concepts and then moves on to explore the physical and cultural geography of each region.

Consumer Economics

Grade Level:  11,12
One Semester Course:  0.5 credit
Prerequisites:  None
Course Description:  God blesses us richly with many gifts including money and opportunities. How should a person use these gifts to the glory of God?  This hands-on course attempts to advise students regarding life-long money management decisions.  We will discuss student’s options and the “how tos” of investing, vehicle and home purchasing, getting married, budgeting, insurance, retirement planning, taxes, establishing credit, beginning a career, etc. for the purpose of preparing each student to function as informed Christian consumers.

Sociology

Grade  Level:  11-12
One or Two semester course:  0.5 Credit per semester
Prerequisites:  World History & U.S. History
Course Description:  Sociology is an elective course designed to study social structures.  As students delve into their own and other societies, they will be led to see the consequences of sin.  They will also understand that the only cure for societies’ ills is the gospel of Jesus Christ.
