Financial Aid

Financial Aid at WLA

Winnebago Lutheran Academy realizes the cost of secondary Christian education may be a challenge for some families. Because of this, WLA is happy to award financial aid to the families of students who qualify. In 2017-18, $103,604 in financial aid was awarded to forty-two different students. Awards are need-based and vary based on family situation.

Financial aid awarded to families come from Association congregations, individual gifts, WLA’s annual golf outing, Tee it Up for WLA, and from distributions from the WLA Endowment Fund and other established scholarship funds.

The financial aid open application period for the 2018-2019 school year is February 1, 2018 – April 20, 2018. Financial aid applications are submitted through a company called TADS. TADS objectively analyzes a family’s information. There is also an opportunity to submit a letter that details any extenuating circumstances your family may have. There is a $34 fee to submit a financial aid application – the fee comes back to families as part of their financial aid award. WLA encourages all families who are considering applying to review the 2018-19 Financial Aid Guide found below. Please note this chart is a guide – the WLA Financial Aid Committee also considers family situations and other extenuating circumstances when determining financial aid awards.

On the side panel are links to the TADS Financial Aid Worksheet and the TADS Financial Aid Application.  The Worksheet is for informational purposes and will help your family assemble the necessary information to complete the Financial Aid Application.  The link to the actual online Financial Aid Application requires a family to log-in.  For those families who have a tuition account with TADS or applied to Financial Aid last year, you will use the same log-in.

Please note the specific situations below regarding applying for financial aid.

  • If your student is new to WLA and you have need for financial aid, apply for both financial aid and the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP) if you meet the income criteria of the WPCP.
  • If your student is a returning student and has received or has a need for financial aid. Financial aid needs to be applied for annually.
  • If your student is a returning student who received a voucher through the WPCP in the 2017-2018 school year. Do NOT apply for financial aid. Just re-apply to the WPCP for a voucher for the 2018-2019 school year.

More information about the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program and how it can relates to your student attending WLA can be found here.

How can you help?

Gifts for tuition assistance are great blessings to the families of WLA and may be given directly to WLA at any time of the year.  WLA and its families are grateful to all who donate toward tuition assistance. Student aid awarded by WLA is from individual donations, WLA’s annual golf outing, Tee-It-Up for WLA, the WLA Endowment Fund, and other established scholarship funds.

Some WLA Association Congregations are also able to assist students from their home congregations in addition to the assistance awarded by WLA. Talk with your pastor to see if this is an option in your congregation.
